And so Ram went off in pursuit of the golden deer, and when the golden deer ran farther and farther away from the ashram and the hermitage, Ram knew that there was some deceit and trickery going on, still he moved in pursuit. Finally, he was well away from the ashram hermitage and he took the arrow in his bow, and he shot the arrow and it landed into the chest of the deer, and the deer immediately became a demon.
Sita went in to the house. And Lakshman took an arrow, and he said the mantra, and he drew a line in the sand all the way around the house, which is called a Lakshman Rekha.
He abducted Sita. This was the masterstroke. Ravana first created rules, so that he could be only killed by a human. This human was an avatar of Lord Vishnu and capable of defeating him. Then he created a reason. This way, he ensured that only Lord Vishnu will become the reason of his death. This was his ultimate wish, which he achieved. Lord Rama first used Prasavapana for evaporating the nectar from his navel, and then decapacitated his head.
I would say, he was the great strategist and he executed his plans well, so that he achieved one more step towards unification with Lord Vishnu. Your email address will not be published. Outraged by her reaction, he pulled her off from her hair and mocked her devotion for Vishnu.
Highly incensed by the shameful act of Ravana she cuts off her hair, enters the fire saying that she would return in her next life to become the reason of his death.
According to some versions of Ramayana, Vedavati is born as Maya Sita, who replaces the real Sita, gets abducted by Ravana, while the later reside in the fire and both exchange places during the Agni Pariksha. She had her own axe to grind. Her husband, Dushtabudhi was killed by Ravana as his greed for power grew with time. Shurpankha became a widow henceforth wanted to avenge his brother. She was meek in front of his high-powered stature, therefore waited for the right occasion.
He said that if she stayed within the boundary of the line, no harm would come to her. Meanwhile, Ravana was hiding nearby and had heard Laxmana and Sita talking. He saw Laxmana drawing a line around the hut and heard him instructing Sita not to step out. Soon after Laxmana left, Ravana quickly disguised himself as an old hermit and approached the hut.
He begged for some alms and food and water for the elderly hermit and offered it to him. Ravana wanted Sita to step out of the line drawn by Laxmana. He told her that he could hardly reach the water and requested her to step forward and give it to him. Sita thought that he was a harmless, weak hermit and did not want to annoy him so she stepped out of the circle.
As soon as she had done so, Ravana grabbed her and revealed his true identity. He told her that he was the king of Lanka and had come to take her with him to his land. Sita was terrified and told Ravana that Rama and Laxmana would find her and punish Ravana for abducting her. She struggled hard, but in vain. Ravana was very strong and quickly over powered her.
