What was forrest gumps rank in the army

Yet when the bullies from school chase him on their bikes, he is back to his old gait. It is only after the braces are lost that he runs normally. Paul 'Bear' Bryant stands up twice to watch Forrest. The ramp outside the stage door at The Dick Cavett Show as seen over Forrest's shoulder is clear of snow, yet moments later it covered with snow as Lt. Dan slides down it. Forrest is standing in Jenny's foyer upon entry to her apartment.

While they are talking it's possible to see in the background there is an ironing board with the iron laying flat, as if it had been knocked over. While screen shot quickly focuses on the son watching television then quickly back to Forrest and Jenny, the iron has been stood up correctly.

Forrest and Jenny had not moved. When Forrest and Jenny are "walking" along past a candlelit vigil in front of the White House, it is noticeable that they pass the same five or six people several times as well as a couple of the guards at the gate.

Forrest leaves the mower with grass in front of it when he goes to meet Jenny. When they cut back to him, the mower is sitting next to the cut grass, not in the middle of it.

When Forrest sits down to watch TV with his son, the iron behind Jenny changes from being down and sitting up between shots. Forrest was already the President of the Bubba Gump shrimp company, a "household name. When Forrest first gets on the school bus, the shots from inside the bus show the driver's hand on the door lever, while shots from the outside show it on the gear shift lever. When Lt. Dan meets Forrest after Forrest becomes a shrimp boat captain, Lt. Dan smokes a cigar. The ash on the end of the cigar changes between shots; it's longer when the camera is facing Forrest than when the camera is facing Lt.

When the number 4 bus arrives for the first woman that Forrest talked to on the bench, the bus takes off right when she exits the frame, clearly not giving her enough time to board it. Since only a small portion of the end of the bus is shown, the bus would have had to wait a couple more seconds for the woman to walk to the front of the bus and then board it. On the boat, Lt. Dan says he never thanked Forrest for saving his life. Immediately after that he swivels round on the deck and jumps into the water.

At that point, the water is flat calm, but when the camera cuts immediately to Lt. Dan doing a backstroke away from the boat, the water is quite choppy. When Forrest and Jenny visit her old house in Greenbow, Alabama she breaks a window with a rock. In the next scene when Forrest is comforting her on the ground that window is not broken. When Forrest jumps off his boat when he sees Lt.

Dan, the name "Jenny" is not painted on the boat, although Forrest had already painted on the name in an earlier scene. At the Black Panther office in DC, after Jenny's boyfriend smacks her and Forrest attacks him, the two of them slide off of a table onto the floor fighting. When they cut away, then back to the fight, the now-collapsed table is under them.

Around the 6 minute mark when Forrest and his mom are crossing the street, the same black truck in the background passes them twice, before his foot gets caught in the sewer grate and right after, after the camera cuts to a different view.

When Forrest is talking to Lt. Dan after jumping off his boat and meeting him on the pier, some camera angles show Forrest to be completely dry when he was just swimming in the water. Dan calls in the air strike, there are 2 soldiers to his right, then there is an explosion and sudden fireball supposedly killing the 2 soldiers.

After the explosion, the next scene shows an M being fired from that position the person firing it is not seen. When Forrest stops running, there are no shadows in the overhead shots overcast weather but a clear shadow from his cap in the close-up of his face. When Forrest runs Tex out of the Vietnam forest, he is holding onto to a leg in one shot, his arm in the next shot, and then his leg again in the last shot. In the scene where Forrest sees Lt.

Dan on the dock and jumps from his shrimping boat, he pushes off on his left foot. In the reverse shot, from the front, he's pushing off with his right foot. The feather is visible on Forrest's shoe and floating in the air at the same time, when the camera is approximately ten feet above Forrest's head.

In the final scene the school bus pulls away leaving Forrest on the right and a line of white mail boxes to the left. Three of the mail boxes have round blue containers to put rolled up newspapers in attached to them. Between the bus departing shot and the white feather shot a newspaper appears and disappears in the blue container on the far left. When Forrest is running back and forth in Vietnam looking for Bubba while saving members of the platoon we see an African American raise their hand to signal Forrest, in the next shot we see a Caucasian.

The radio news states that four congressional medal of honor were given at the ceremony. But when LBJ walks away, there are five including Forrest recipients with their medals around their necks.

When Forrest reaches to shake President Kennedy's hand, Kennedy is wearing a light-colored tie. When Kennedy turns to laugh at Forrest's remark, his tie color changes to a dark one. The reason for this is that the editors used different pieces of archival footage of President Kennedy from separate events.

When little Forrest and Jenny are on the bus, the bus seems to be traveling at different speeds, depending on the shot. When Forrest's boat crashes into the dock, the name Jenny, which he had painted on the stern, wasn't there.

Forrest's hands on the swing ropes when listening to his mother entertain the school inspector. The tempo in the first song, when he is running, "running on empty," speeds up and slows down. You can tell they edited the clips together.

The scenes or the music must have been sped up or slowed down. When Forrest runs across the football field he doesn't have a shadow but all the other players do.

Bubba's lower lip when he and Forrest are on their way to Vietnam in the helicopter. During his cross-country run, Forrest's clothes change throughout. Is this interesting? Several times during the movie, road signs for US 17 are visible.

US 17 does not run through Alabama. It does run thru the SC coast where the movie was filmed. Through most of the Vietnam scenes we see groves of palm trees that are not found in Asia. Torn pieces of internal organs bulged out of smaller bullet wounds. He said to Forrest- "I want to go home, Forrest. After recovering in the army hospital, Forrest is introduced to Ping-pong, and rather than returning to Vietnam, Forrest is assigned to the Special Services, entertaining wounded veterans with his ping-pong skills.

When he returns in , he was a national hero, "famouser than even Captain Kangaroo " and was invited by Dick Cavett to appear on The Dick Cavett Show. John Lennon was also a guest on the show at the time and hearing Forrest talk about the Chinese having "no possessions" and "no religion too", inspired him to write the song "Imagine". Soon after, Forrest was briefly reunited with Lieutenant Dan, now a bitter alcoholic who used a wheelchair and had lost his faith in God.

Lieutenant Dan was also annoyed that Forrest, whom he declared as "an imbecile who embarrassed himself on television," was given the Medal of Honor. When Forrest told him of his and Bubba's plan to go into the shrimping business, Lieutenant Dan laughed and jokingly remarked that if Forrest was ever a shrimping boat captain, he would be his first mate.

Forrest was awakened by flashlights in the offices opposite his room. Believing the tenants to be having difficulty with a fuse box, he calls Frank Wills at the security office to notify the maintenance crew, inadvertently initiating the Watergate scandal, which leads to President Nixon's resignation in Shortly after this, Forrest was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Sergeant and returned home to Alabama.

Upon his return, Forrest finds his Greenbow house filled with memorabilia capitalizing on his fame as a ping-pong player in China. When someone pointed out it was bad luck to have a boat without a name, Forrest named the boat after Jenny, which he calls, "The most beautiful name in the wide world. Sometime later, Forrest is visited by Lieutenant Dan, who as a man of his word, has come to be Forrest's first mate, just as he said he would be on the New Year's Eve of For several weeks, the two have no luck catching shrimp.

However, things change when the area is hit by Hurricane Carmen. Forrest's boat was the only one left standing and they find themselves with a monopoly of shrimp. Under the name of Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, they soon became very wealthy. Having faced his demons during the storm, Lieutenant Dan thanks Forrest for saving his life in Vietnam, and Forrest assumes that Dan without actually saying so made peace with God.

Forrest returned home to Greenbow in September when he learned his mother was dying of cancer. After her death, Forrest stayed at the house and leaves his shrimping industry in the hands of Lieutenant Dan and retired to mowing and cutting grass and lawns, as he apparently enjoys doing it. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Dan participated in a substantial investment into what Forrest says to be "some kind of fruit company.

Even though Lt. Dan said he was crazy, he gave Mrs. Blue a share of the money, to which she promptly faints since that was enough for them to never work again. With the money he got from the Apple Computers investment, Forrest spent them on renovating the church he frequents and establishing a medical center at Bubba's hometown.

Jenny returns to Greenbow and moves in with Forrest. The two spend time together and Forrest later describes it as "the happiest time of my life. Jenny hails a cab very early the next morning and leaves, unbeknownst to him before he wakes up.

Forrest's newfound loneliness leads him to take a run "for no particular reason. Eventually, he traverses the country several times over a span of three years. Forrest attracts media coverage, and eventually, dozens of followers initiating and inspiring what would become the jogging craze of — During the run, he inspires the phrase "Shit Happens" to a bumper-sticker salesman after stepping in a pile of dog poop.

He also uses a yellow t-shirt provided to him by a designer to wipe off his face after being splattered by mud. Corrected entry : In the arc of Gump's life, it would have been impossible for the media to be continuously unaware of who he is, yet they are.

No All-American football player at Alabama would ever become anonymous in that State, nor would it have escaped media attention that the same guy who was a grid iron hero, a medal of honor winner who spoke at an anti-war rally with Abbie Hoffman, and then a multi millionaire philanthropist. Yet when Gump begins his back and forth run across America, the media coverage of him all centers on his relative obscurity. Correction: It would be possible for Gump to remain relatively obscure. Most Americans don't even know their own congressman, senator, governor etc.

There are many actors and singers that many people wouldn't know if they saw them walking down the street. Not to mention Gump's brushes with fame were years apart. Corrected entry : In the scene where Forrest is being chased by the bullies in the truck, the truck has a confederate flag plate on the front, but no "official" state of Alabama-issued plate. Alabama issued duplicate plates one for front and back through Since this scene took place while Forrest was in high school, prior to , it should have had a front plate.

Correction: Two points to nullify this. Many states issue duplicate plates but do not legally require the front plate to be used. Alabama did not require 2 license plates in It's irrelevant though because 2. These boys are in their vehicle chasing another boy who is on foot.

They are throwing objects at him and fully intend to beat him severely if they catch him. It's quite clear they have very little concern for the law. They frankly don't care whether they need that front plate or not. It's a character choice, not a movie mistake. Corrected entry : In the scene where Forrest gets his discharge papers, the sargeant calls him PFC, that is private first class. However, if he had served one tour in Vietnam, he would have been automatically promoted to SP4, that is one rank above PFC.

When he is in uniform at the rally in Washington, he is wearing three stripes on his shoulder - that is sargeant, a rank he could not have earned after being discharged. The rank is bestowed and is not revocable except by act of Congress. This action is not dependent upon still being on active duty. Corrected entry : It makes no sense that Lt.

Dan was shocked about Forrest receiving the Congressional Medal of Honor. First off, as Forrest's commanding officer in the field, Lt. Dan would have had to recommend him for the medal. Also, as one of the people who Forrest rescued from the battlefield, Lt. Dan would certainly have been interviewed to verify Forrest's heroic actions. Correction: Lt. Dan was not as shocked as he was angry. He was left a paraplegic while an "imbecile" like Forrest was spared.

He was using this opportunity to vent his frustration; surely he knew Forrest was going to receive the medal. He's not angry that Forrest got the medal, it's more disbelief because Forrest showed his butt on TV.
